Reconciling LSM differences between MOM6 and CAM

Hi there,

I am working on creating new boundary condition datasets for past climate in CESM3. I am relying heavily on MOM6/tx2_3/.. and paleowg-recipes (on GitHub), NCAR Topo and the documentation and examples therein...

Some specific adjustments to the land-sea mask are required after creating a topography file on the tx2_3v2 grid. It seems to be standard protocol to manually edit coastlines, widen channels, fill inland seas, etc. I have also manually removed several small islands and restored some channels that were clobbered by the interpolation process to get to tx2_3.

However, the NCAR Topo utility requires that the topography and land sea mask be created from a high resolution lat/lon grid (as in, the dataset I used prior to making the above changes).

My question is this: How do I create a CAM7 topography file whose land sea mask better matches that which I will be using in MOM6? Or, can the coupler reconcile these differences without my help? My attempts to remap my tx2_3 mask to a regular lat/lon grid leave many of my adjustments behind. I expect this will also become an issue when I create the land surface dataset.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Michelle
