Please be aware that this Wednesday morning (May 18) at 6:00-8:00AM the
file system /fs will be migrated onto a CGD server from SCD. Amongst
other things, /fs is the home of the CVS repositories for CAM and CCSM
source code. While this is intended to be a seamless transition, we are
asking users to refrain from using CVS during this time frame to avoid
any potential file corruption.

Migration of /fs from SCD -> CGD
The file system /fs is currently hosted by the SCD machine fileserver-n8.
The original purpose for SCD hosting /fs was the ability to have
the same data available on all machines: BlackForrest, BlueSky,
Dataproc, and all CGD system. The large number of systems accessing
/fs caused the file systems to be slow, and at times unstable.
Placing the SCD systems behind a firewall has largely negated the
usefulness of /fs. The slowness and instability have remained, however.
To cure this, CGD/IS will be migrating /fs onto a CGD server.
The new /fs will be a RAID 5 set of disks, able to continue
operation with one drive failure, and be backed up by CGD/IS.
The only difference users should notice is increased performance
and stability.
