Setting up WACCM-X future scenario simulation

What version of the code are you using?
CESM2.1.5

Have you made any changes to files in the source tree?
No

Describe every step you took leading up to the problem:
Searched CESM input file directory (https://svn-ccsm-inputdata.cgd.ucar.edu/trunk/inputdata/); contacted NCAR staff. I will include replies/solutions I have so far.

Describe your problem or question:
I would like to set up a future scenario simulation with WACCM-X (FX compset). I plan to run this on ARCHER2 in the UK. I do not have access to NCAR systems. I previously ran a future scenario simulation for SSP2-4.5 so I have the general set up ready and the model runs on ARCHER2, but I need to identify suitable alternative input files as far as they are scenario-specific. Based on my previous set up and browsing the CESM input file directory, I think the following might be suitable for SSP5-8.5:

Emissions:
Aerosols, sulfate:
Lower boundary:
For SSP2-4.5 for flbc_file I used: '/LBC_17500116-25001216_CMIP6_SSP245_0p5degLat_c190322.nc'. For SSP5-8.5, use
https://svn-ccsm-inputdata.cgd.ucar...16-25001216_CMIP6_SSP585_0p5degLat_c180905.nc?

I am also interested in SSP1-2.6, for which I can see similar files available as far as I could identify them for SSP5-8.5, but it would be good to have confirmation that these are the right files to use, or if not, which ones to use instead.

I would also need sea surface temperature (SST) input data. Simone Tilmes advised SST inputs for both SSP5-85 and SSP1.26 are available in this directory: /glade/campaign/cesm/cesmdata/cseg/inputdata/atm/cam/sst/
sstice_b.e21.BHIST.f09_g17.CMIP6-hist.011-SSP1-2.6.002_0.9x1.25_yrs1850-2100_timeseries_c20190909.nc
sstice_b.e21.BSSP585cmip6.f09_g17.CMIP6-SSP5-8.5.001_0.9x1.25_yrs2015-2100_timeseries_c20200207.nc

I don't have access to this myself, but Mijeong Park kindly made them available to me. I have noticed that the SST files are for a different resolution than the standard WACCM-X resolution (1.9x2.5), but this may not be an issue (I'll have to try!).

Simone also suggested setting up a BW compset case for the scenario(s) I am interested in and then use the namelist generated with that to identify and download the input files I need (there are no F compsets available for future scenarios). This approach suggested different emissions files from the ones I identified myself. So maybe the ones above are NOT the ones to use. However, the files identified from the BW compset are again for a different resolution, so I am not sure if they would work. The aerosol and sulfate files are missing from the BW compset namelist, so are presumably not needed for this configuration, but I would need to specify these for my WACCM-X simulation. The lower boundary file suggested through the BW compset is the one I had identified myself, so this at least is confirmed. But I'm not sure about the rest of the setup.

If anyone here can advise further on which input files to use, I would gladly receive any help! If I get any further information through other channels, I'll add it here for everyone's benefit.

Many thanks,
Ingrid
