Something wrong with the boundary input datasets

Dear CAM3.0 developers,
When I try to plot the file :sst_HadOIBl_bc_64x128_clim_c020411.nc, some problems encounter me like the followings:

I use the software GrADS1.8sL11. Trying to sdfopen the file, I fould it`s hard to reach my destination.
Why the Time is only set to 1 month which should be 12 months for the climatological SST.
The same problem encounters with the file :sst_HadOIBl_bc_64x128_1949-2001_c020411.nc which the Tsize should be 636 months.

How can I correct it?

Thanks and Regards.

I'm not familiar with the GrADS software, but from scanning the output from the sdfopen command it appears that the only problem is not being able to recognize a time coordinate. This is a problem with the file metadata. The reason this file works in CAM is that only the data stored in the date and datesec variables are used for time interpolation. The file contains a time variable, but its metadata does not follow the COARDS or CF conventions and I believe that's why GrADS is unable to recognize it. We are aware of this problem and will fix it in future datasets.

Dear eaton,
Thanks for your reply.
It is appreciative that you said that you would fix the problem in future datasets. But, could you tell me how can I deal with the present datasets in advance? Cauze I want to analyze it to reveal the information it contains which I need in my essay before I run it on the CAM model.
Maybe it is too fulsome for you to answer my question. But any of your hints would help me greatly.

Thanks in advance!

Or could you tell me which software could recognize the time coordinate contains in the files?
By the way, when would the new-meliorative datasets appear?

Dear CAM3.0 developers,
I am trying to run the cam3.0 with the monthly observed SSTs, sst_HadOIBl_bc_128x256_1949_2001_c020812.nc, but when I submit the job, the model stop with the followings errors:

My question is, is there something wrong with the dataset, sst_HadOIBl_bc_128x256_1949_2001_c020812.nc, or somewhere in my namelist?

To show the errors that encountered me clearly, I give the namelist with which I cam verbosely as following:

Dear eaton,

Is this the same problem with the file sst_HadOIBl_bc_128x256_1949_2001_c020812.nc that I couldn`t plot out by GrADS, while in this time, it doesn`t work in CAM3.0.

Could you give me some clues to accomplish my job.

Thank you in advance!

The problem is in the namelist. By default the initial time of the run is read from the initial file which in this case is 0000-09-01. This time is not contained in the SST dataset you specified. Set an appropriate initial date using the namelist variable start_ymd.

Dear eaton,

Thank you for your help first.
When I set the namelist variable start_ymd=194909 & et al. correspondingly, it really works.

But I am confused about why should I set the start_ymd et al., could the model initial time of the run be set to be 0000-01-01 ?

Or in other words, why the model set to start run from 0000-09-01 but not 0000-01-01 ? Could you tell me the reason ? Or could you give me some conceptual hints about ?

Thank you in advance !

It is my incaution that made the so-called error encountered me.

I check it more and more times and finally found the mistake I had made which I give as following:

+45 start_ymd = 194909

should be set to
start_ymd = 19490901

It is ok now !

But why the initial run time should be set to 0000-09-01 still confuse me.

I am looking forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

Thanks and regards !
