surface ocean heat flux correction

I would like to run CCSM4 in fully coupled mode but with an adjustment to SSTs in the tropics that nudges the system towards observed monthly climatology. The documentation for POP indicates that there are surface heat flux forcing formulations to do just this (e.g. sfh_data_type = 'monthly', shf_formulation = 'restoring'), but that these options only apply to uncoupled POP runs. What are my options for imposing this type of forcing in a fully coupled integration? Specifically, I am interested in 1) performing a ~ 30 year run of CCSM4 (fully coupled), nudging the SST at each time step toward a prescribed monthly climatology, 2) saving the heat flux corrections at each time step to compute a monthly climatology of the heat flux correction, and finally 3) running the fully coupled CESM with the monthly climatology of heat flux correction added to the surface ocean in the tropics in order to obtain a fully coupled run of CESM with mean tropical SSTs that are similar to observations.

Is there a way to perform steps (1) and (3) above using the forcing modules that are already in place?
