Switching FWsc2010climo from f09_f09_mg17 (~0.9°×1.25°) to ~1°×1° grid – required steps and potential issues

Hello,

I am working with the FWsc2010climo compset. The default resolution is f09_f09_mg17. For my application, I would like to use a more regular ~1° × 1° grid instead.

From what I understand, this would require regridding all of the input data (initial conditions, prescribed ozone, CO₂, emissions, SST/ice boundary conditions, land surface data, etc.) onto the new grid. Beyond this, is there any other difficulty?

Hi Mark, thanks for writing. I believe a lot of the tunable parameters specified in the namelist would need to be re-tuned and scientifically validated for the new grid as well. Can I ask why the 0.9x1.25 grid won't work for your application? You could regrid the output onto 1x1 degree and that would be much easier.

Hello Haipeng, thank you for your response. I need to assimilate some satellite data, then restart. The ultimate goal is to obtain some atmospheric parameters. Since the proposal requires the evaluation grid to be 1x1, I am concerned that the existing resolution interpolation will increase the error. The regridding you mentioned should be useful. I would like to ask, the result after assimilation still 1x1 here, it seems unfavorable for a restart ? Thanks again.
