using mksurfdata to create 4x5 pftdyn files

Hi, we are trying to use mksurfdata to create 4x5 degree input files for transient (1850-2000) simulations.

We have used svn to download most of the required input data from:

"https://svn-ccsm-inputdata.cgd.ucar.edu/trunk/inputdata/lnd/clm2/rawdata/pftlandusedyn.0.5x0.5.simyr1850-2005.c090630/"​

which includes the land use files for 1850 and 2000. However, the land use files for intervening years, listed in pftdyn_hist_simyr1850-2005.txt, appear to be stored on a different path that we cannot access from outside NCAR; for example:

/cgd/tss/pftlandusedyn.0.5x0.5.simyr1850-2005.c090630/mksrf_landuse_rc1851_c090630.nc​

Can someone tell us whether we need these additional files and, if so, is there a simple way for us to get hold of them?

Hi Chris

The full series of the 1850-2005 data for transient 20th Century simulations is currently only available from the NCAR machine bluefire. If you can get an account on the machine you'll be able to access it on the disk you mention and then transfer it. In order to do a transient simulation you do want the entire time-series. You could use the two end points to create a transient file -- and it would get the rough characteristics of the land-use change. But, the harvesting for CN would be screwed up and it would harvest from the same areas over and over again.

We will look into making the data more easily available.

We've added the rest of the data to...

"https://svn-ccsm-inputdata.cgd.ucar.edu/trunk/inputdata/lnd/clm2/rawdata/pftlandusedyn.0.5x0.5.simyr1850-2005.c090630/"

so the entire series from 1850-2005 is now available on the inputdata repository. You will have to modify the paths in the text file to get it to work, but you can get the data from there now.
