Where are namelist of initial condition and output of CESM 1.2.2?

Dear all, When I run the atmosphere-ocean coupled model, where can I find the namelists of the default initial condition and output? If I would like to save some variable as daily output, sea surface temperature for instant, how can I set it? Beside, is the output of CAM post-processed when we look at it? If not, is therer any package of post-processing for CAM output? Many thanks, gfang

I am answering this for CAM.
> When I run the atmosphere-ocean coupled model, where can I find the namelists of the default initial condition and output? The initial condition for CAM is the file ncdata in the atm_in file (in your run directory)> If I would like to save some variable as daily output, sea surface temperature for instant, how can I set it? You can add anotehr history file and save daily values by specifying fincl2 and nhtfrq(2)

Thanks for your quick reply. That is helpful.  With respect to the namelist, do you mean both the model namelist linked from the user's guide (below) and master field namelist?http://www.cesm.ucar.edu/models/cesm1.2/cesm/doc/modelnl/nl_cam.html  and http://www.cesm.ucar.edu/models/cesm1.2/cesm/doc/modelnl/nl_pop2.htmlWhen I google CESM master field list CAM and POP, I found these two namelists:http://www.cesm.ucar.edu/models/cesm1.0/cam/docs/ug5_0/hist_flds_fv_cam5.html and http://www.cgd.ucar.edu/ccr/strandwg/big_ensemble/ocn_fields.html Are they the standard outputs for coupling model? Does CESM output all the variables monthly by default? If I would like to output many of them as daily data, is there any easier way to do that (instead of specifying fincl2 and nhtfrq(2) for every single varibale that I am interested)?  Thanks

Namelists contains many variables that are read by the model at run time (output frequency, tuning parameters, etc...).  The master field list is the set of fields you can output with the model. For instead T is a variable in the master field list. You can output T daily in a file *h1* by using namelist variables:fincl2 = "T"
nhtfrq = 0, -24 The webpage you point too is NOT a namelists. This is a list of fields that can be output with CAM:http://www.cesm.ucar.edu/models/cesm1.0/cam/docs/ug5_0/hist_flds_fv_cam5.html

Thanks again. Where is the master filed list for POP2? Is it the link that I found? Since there is not maximum for variables for a single history file (h1 to h5), how can I determin when to switch to another history file? It seems that I can use fincl2 for all the variables that I would like to add. With respect to outputting high frequency data in POP, I do not quite get it. For example, I would like to add potential temperature (TEMP) and salinity (SALT) to an extra history file (h1) with daily values (with the primary history file h0 as monthly). Since they are not tavg_nml variables (correct?), I can add them in user_nl_pop2, correct? How do I do it?

Hi,The variables that appear in POP's time-averaged history files (called tavg files in POP) are not determined by namelist variables. The basics of selecting tavg options, including which variables get output, are covered in section 5 of the POP FAQ, http://www.cesm.ucar.edu/models/cesm1.2/pop2/doc/faq/Please note that SST is standardly output daily in files with filename of the form $CASE.pop.h.nday1.YYYY-MM-DD.nc. These files have 1 month's worth of daily means.Keith
