Why is the index of pft inconsistent?

Dear scientists,
I attempt to look for the index of PFT of each grid from surface data, but I only find the "natpft" with the long name "indices of natural PFTs". It is just a one-dimensional variable 15. However, according to the "Table 2.1: Plant functional types" in the CLM5.0 Document, it is more than 15. Why is the index of pft inconsistent?

(1) in the surface dataset
natpft
Size: 15x1
Dimensions: natpft
Datatype: int32
Attributes:
long_name = 'indices of natural PFTs'
units = 'index'

(2) in the CLM5.0 Document

Looks like this thread is resolved, but it's more applicable to the CLM forum, so I'm moving it there.
