Zeros in T31 CAM initialization files

I'm running CCSM on an IBM Power 6 machine. I've found that the initialization files (eg. T31test.cam2.i.1011-04-01-00000.nc) produced at T31 resolution by the CAM component have zeros for many of the variable values (lat, lon , lev, time, T, U, V, Q as a few examples). Other variables (PS, PHIS, etc.) appear fine. These faulty values in the init files mean that I'm unable to restart hybrid runs. The init files are produced correctly at T42 and T95 resolutions.

Does anyone have some ideas as to why this could be happening? thanks.

That seems very odd since the same code writes out initial files regardless of resolution. Does the run finish correctly or does it output any errors?
