Allowable file formats to attach to threads or posts

What version of the code are you using?
Today's version of DiscussCESM. I don't know how to find the official version, and it probably doesn't matter.
Firefox on a Mac, updated as required by NCAR and UCAR IT.

Describe every step you took leading up to the problem:
I entered information into a window like this and tried to follow the instructions to attach relevant files.
The file I wanted to attach is a simple text file, but it is grayed out, so I can't attach it.
I've searched the CESM posts, DuckDuckGo, and Google for a list of allowable formats, but have not found one.

It would be helpful to have an easily findable page describing which formats are attachable
and why the most common form of files people would want to attach are not acceptable.
Bill Sacks' page about what to include in these posts would be a fine place for it.
Better yet would be changing the "Attach files" button to say "Attach {allowable formats} files"

Hi there,
I've asked the administrators and the allowable file formats are:
zip
txt
pdf
png
jpg
jpeg
jpe
gif
tiff
eps
tar
gz
tar.gz

So not sure why you couldn’t upload your txt file, but I’ve noticed sometimes it will grey out allowed items then after closing and trying again it will not be greyed out. Let me know if this doesn't help your problem.

Thanks for the context!
Now I get it; it's not the actual file format, it's the extension on the file name.
When I move my "invisible" file from file.log to file.log.txt, then I can attach it.
A .msf file (Mozilla work database) can't be attached, but if I rename it file.msf.pdf (it's not a pdf),
then it can be attached.

So I suggest that the instructions for providing content in a post be changed to
"If the error occurs during the STAGE, please attach the appropriate STAGE log file (with .txt added to the name) ..."
and similarly in other places where attaching files is suggested.
