Folder names in MOM6-testing datasets

In the MOM6-testing folder on the FTP site, there is both a zipped folder called OM4_025.tgz and a regular folder called OM4_025. At least in the OM4_025.JRA test case, it doesn't look as though any of the files in the regular OM4_025 folder are used - only those found in the .tgz folder are pointed to.

Is it safe to unzip OM4_025.tgz and overwrite the other folder? What is the purpose of this other folder on the FTP?

Moving forward with the unzip, I see that unzipping the zipped folders doesn't overwrite any of the files in the regular folder. So I guess this should work out fine.

Indeed, I packed some of the files to reduce the number of downloads. The unpacked files in OM4_025/ are often needed individually (such as for the pre-processing) but if you need one of the forcing files then you will need them all.
