Negative runoff values?

Does anyone know why negative runoff values might appear? They seem to crop up in a few cells near the edges of land masses.

Good question. See the Tech Note, where it describes it as a withdrawal of water from the ocean.

The section on MOSART also talks about how only positive runoff is routed. Negative runoff means that more water is needed for hydrology in the land model than is available from the runoff. It's also needed to balance water in the system, which is why we take it from the ocean.

Hopefully, that helps.
